Riau Islands as geographic is very strategic location between regional and international trading zone in south east asia. Their position is in international high traffict shipping line transportation. This zone is connecting to Hindia, south china and pacific acean. Neighbourhood with South China in north side and West Kalimantan and Malaysia in east side, South Sumatera and Jambi in south side, Riau, Singapore and Malaysia in west side.
Riau Islands teritory is around 8,084.01 Km² which devided to 96% is acean and 4% island [2,408 islands]. Administratively this province is devided to 4 regions and 2 cities and Tanjung Pinang as capital province. Their gross domestic income is around IDR. 9.96 trillion in 2005.
The biggest income is in trading sector, hotel and restaurant i.e., around IDR 2.49 trillion or 25.00% of Gross Domestic Income. This level is followed by mining, agriculture sector with each contribution around IDR. 2.08 trillion [20.90%] and IDR. 1.46 trillion [14.7%]. Generally the most competitive industry in this area is in agriculture [palm and rubber plantation] and fishery [fish farm].
There are 2 [two] industrial parks i.e., Batam International Industrial Estate and Madong Island. This province is also supported by 21 seaport and Tanjung Pianag as the biggest and completest seaport, foloowed by Matak Seaport and Lagoi Seaport. Riau Island also facilitated with 3 [three] air ports, i.e., Kijang Airport, Dabo Airport and Ranai Airport.
