East Java Investment

East Java Province is situated at the east end of Java Island and covers Madura and Bawean Islands. Geographically, this province is surrounded by four areas: in the north by South Kalimantan Province, in the south by the Indonesian Ocean, in the east by Bali Province, and in the west by Central Java Province. The area of the province covers 46,428. 57 km2 with the population of 37,071,731 people and its population growth of 2.39% with its population density of 798 people per km2. Administratively, the province consists of 29 regencies (similar to a county) and 9 cities and Surabaya is as its capital city.

In 2005, according to its constant price, the Gross Regional Domestic Products (PDRB) reached Rp. 256.4 trillion. The sectors which contributed the biggest amount to this province were trade, hotels and restaurants, reaching 29.1% (Rp. 74.6 trillion) followed by manufacturing industry at 27.6% (Rp. 70.6 trillion) and agricultural sectors at 17.4% (Rp. 44.7 trillion) as shown by the graph.East Java Province owns several commodities from leading sectors. Agricultural sectors, through basic plant, plantation and fishery sub-sectors have vital roles in the economy of the province.
The commodities that this province has produced are as follows: rice, coconut, cane, cashew fruit, coffee, clove, tobacco, rubber and cacao. The total production of the fishery sub-sector which was divided into three: sea fishery, fresh water fishery and aquaculture. The provincial export volume in 2005 reached 6.95 million tons with the total amount of US$7.43 billion. To support the economic wheel and investment activities, the province has well provided means of transportation and other infrastructure facilities. 23 industrial estates, spreading in 8 regencies and two cities, such as in Bondowoso, Gresik, Jombang, Lamongan, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Sidoarjo Regencies, Madiun and Surabaya cities.
Both means of land, seas and air transportation facilities really support its investment activities. There are 29 small and large scale sea ports, including Tanjung Perak seaport with its quay of 8,644 meters long as the biggest one here, followed by Gresik seaport with its quay 1,115 meters and Tanjung Wangi seaport with 770 meters long. In addition, there are 5 crossing sea-ports spreading in 5 regencies: Ujung Kamal crossing sea-port in Surabaya and Bangkalan regency, Jangkar (anchor) sea-port at Situbondo regency, Kalianget sea-port at Kalianget regency, and Ketapang sea-port at Banyuwangi regency. The province owns 2 air ports: Juanda International Airport at Sidoarjo Regency and Abdurahman Saleh at Malang Regency. Supporting facilities in East Java Province is shown in the following map.
